Soccer Committee: sC (2007)

This small set of tiny songs by the Dutch artist Mariska Baars a/k/a 'Soccer Committee' is an impressive achievement that stands the test of time. While it appears to be one thing it quickly becomes something else and then something else again. As far as I know, this 2007 release was a limited-edition release. I wish I could remember where I found it – I had thought it was HERE but apparently not, although you'll find other SC stuff at that address. And HERE is the delightful SC web site.

By the way, the above picture has nothing to do with this recording – 'thank you' to the people who have sent me a message in the last month or so – more posts soon. A special thanks to Olde Edo and R. Pitts who have shared a couple of CDs and requested I crawl out of my hole and share them with the rest of you. I hope to have those (and many more) up in time for autumn!

**************

BUT ---- THE FOLLOWING DAY... Yesterday I posted this and JvG got in touch to let me know that the third selection didn't download properly. In the meantime I discovered that this wonderful recording, while physically out of print, is available as an MP3 download – for about the price of a beanburger and chips – from BOOMKAT. (I just checked it out myself and the interface works very well. The MP3 is much higher quality than the files I've provided – although I hope that it won't be much longer before lossless downloads become the norm on commercial music sites.)

So, I can't really justify providing this one for free. On the other hand, I feel very strongly that this piece of music ought to be more widely known (which is why I posted it in the first place.) And what about JvG and the other 20 people who downloaded this and are stuck with that truncated third track?

HERE are the first three pieces from this recording – if you picked this up yesterday, you'll need to replace track three, and if you like what you hear, you'll be wanting to buy the whole package HERE.

Thanks for this one. I've got two collaborations with machinefabriek on 3" CD-Rs. Track #3 is broken here -any chance of a re-up, please?

"Jakob" -----

were you unable to download track three ('Flock') or does it 'break off' at 2'42''? I believe that the abrupt ending is intentional (at least it's always broken off at that point when I've listened to it! --- and 2'42'' is the correct timing.)

I downloaded this w/o problem this morning, but if you are unable to actually download the file, please let me know and I will (of course) replace it.

Thanks and take care.

J von G --- aha! I hear what you mean. Sorry about that ... I will repost this tomorrow evening and will leave a note when it's ready both here and in the post itself.

Thanks for the warning.

Not at all - thank YOU for sharing. I missed out on this one. Fortunately, I grabbed one copy of Thole (on Slaapwel), Clay 3", Drawn LP and Redrawn CD, all of these alonside Machinefabriek. I love Mariska Baars' voice! I'll be checking your post again tomorrow. Thanks!

JvG --- I've reupped the track in question (see note and link above) --- thanks again for letting me know. I like M. Baars songs a lot as well (obviously) and while I've enjoyed her other projects, including the Machinefabriek ones, I hope she is planning to release another solo project soon!

Take care and thanks again.

Thanks, maready. Definitely, her solo project is much more folk/song-orientated - very intimate and delicate, indeed.

I'd really like to know more about the above image. Mind telling?

Thanks so much for the posts, so glad that I found this one.

Anon --- the image is the cover illustration for a turn-of-the-(20th) century children's book by the author 'E. Nesbit' called 'Five Children and It'. (I know, there are only four children in the illustration ..... )

I haven't read it; it's from my girlfriend's collection and we have long admired the cover. I just looked E. Nesbit up on Wikipedia --- pretty interesting life, and now I intend to read the book:

PS to Anon --- and having scrolled down a little further in the Wikipedia entry, I found this link to an interesting piece by Gore Vidal all all people, from the New York Review of Books:

Thanks for rousing me to investigate E. Nesbit --- and now I need to find out who the illustration itself is by ....

Hello, thanks for your excellent blog; I can't believe it's taken me so long to find this wonderful resource! I enjoy your posts and comments about the material just as much as the rips/shares, though of course those are amply appreciated. :)

Did you ever find that Morton Feldman PATTERNS on HatHut? I would be happy to offer it to you, albeit without scans. Normally I'd drop you an email about this, but I couldn't find an email link on the blog...perhaps I am going blind....drop me an email if you need this recording, and I would be more than happy to provide it.

Cheers!

Grasprelease --- thank you very much for the kind words and also for the offer of that CD --- I appreciate your offer, but another generous person has already sent me the PATTERNS HAT CD. Thanks again and I hope to have some new posts up soon.
